Subject: Must try harder!
Dudes! Has to be said that I am a little disappointed by this release ... it seems a tad, well ... um! ... half-baked! 'Sunshine Skank' opens procedings v v nicely ... the beat is phat + I dig the change in tempo. The vocal grows on ya, but am not convinced the style fits into the mix (particularly with the strong reggae/hip-hip vox samples thrown in there) + the same lyrics seem to get repeated too many times. Overall though this is a good track + the strongest on the EP. 'Airhorn' starts off well, has some nice fx + the beats are ok, but the horn stabs get a bit annoying + overall it seems too long (would perhaps be good as a 3 min album opener). I like the slow lollop of 'Odds & Sods', but the title says it all really ... t'is really just an ok interlude track. As for 'Hell is Round the Corner' ... ok, nice try ... but it sounds too much like the original (particularly in vocal style) to me to really stand out + grab. Overall this ep seems too disjointed ... there are plenty of cool ideas + there's deffo some talent here, but I think more work is required to draw it out. RAH!
